Puerto Galera ought to consider implementing discounted rates on weekdays to entice more local tourists. It’s crucial for us to remain competitive with other tourist spots that have slashed their prices to boost visitor numbers.

Regarding the fare hikes for ferries and water taxis, it was initially justified by the surge in fuel costs, reaching as high as 80 pesos per liter for diesel. However, despite the subsequent decrease in fuel prices, the fares have remained unchanged.

It’s not just transportation costs that need adjustment; tour expenses have also ballooned to three times their pre-pandemic rates. To address this, all stakeholders—transportation providers, travel agencies, accommodations, and other tourism service providers—must collaborate. A Tourism Council, empowered by existing ordinances, is best positioned to spearhead this effort.

Without initiatives to attract more tourists, Puerto Galera risks becoming solely a weekend destination, lagging far behind other popular tourist spots.
